India has 5 GST slabs: 0% (exempt essentials), 5% (basic goods), 12% (standard goods), 18% (most manufactured goods and services), and 28% (luxury items and demerit goods). Some items have cess on top of the 28% rate.
IGST (Integrated GST) applies when goods or services are sold across state lines — the central government collects it. CGST + SGST applies for intra-state sales — CGST goes to the centre, SGST to the state. The total tax rate is identical; only the collection split differs.
To extract GST from a GST-inclusive price: GST Amount = (Inclusive Price × GST Rate) ÷ (100 + GST Rate). For example, on ₹118 at 18%: GST = (118 × 18) ÷ 118 = ₹18. Base price = ₹100. Our calculator does this instantly.
Most B2B professional services (consulting, IT, legal, accounting) are taxed at 18% GST. Some services like GTA (goods transport) attract 5% or 12%. Always check the SAC code for your specific service category.
