Who Must Pay Advance Tax?

Senior citizens (60+) with no business income are exempt from advance tax.
Interest on Non-Payment
Section 234B — If advance tax paid is less than 90% of assessed tax liability, interest at 1%/month is charged from April 1 of the assessment year to the date of payment.
Section 234C — If any instalment is short-paid, 1%/month interest is charged on the shortfall for 3 months (or 1 month for the last instalment).
