New Regime: 0% (up to ₹3L), 5% (₹3–7L), 10% (₹7–10L), 15% (₹10–12L), 20% (₹12–15L), 30% (above ₹15L). Standard deduction ₹75,000. Tax rebate under 87A if income ≤ ₹7L (effectively zero tax). 4% health cess applies on calculated tax.
Use new regime if your total deductions are below ₹2.5–3L. Use old regime if you maximise: 80C (₹1.5L EPF+PPF+ELSS), 80D health insurance (₹25–50K), HRA exemption (depends on rent paid), and home loan interest (₹2L). This calculator compares both regimes for your exact income.
Under new regime FY 2025-26: Gross ₹10L → Less standard deduction ₹75K = ₹9.25L taxable. Tax = 0 + 20,000 + 22,500 = ₹42,500 + 4% cess = ₹44,200. Under old regime with ₹1.5L (80C) + ₹25K (80D): Taxable = ₹8.25L. Tax ≈ ₹75,000 + cess ≈ ₹78,000. New regime is better here.
Major deductions under old regime: Section 80C (₹1.5L) — EPF, PPF, ELSS, LIC, NSC, home loan principal; 80D (₹25–75K) — health insurance; HRA exemption (city-dependent); Home Loan Interest (₹2L under 24b); NPS (₹50K under 80CCD(1B)); Standard Deduction ₹50K; LTA; Leave Encashment.
